PROPYLENE GLYCOL NOT GRAS FOR CAT FOOD
In the May 2, 1996 Federal Register, FDA published a final rule which
excludes from generally recognized as safe (GRAS) status the use of propylene
glycol in or on cat food. This final action is based on FDA's review of currently
available information which has raised significant questions about the safety
of this use. Further information on this regulation is available from Dr. David
A. Dzanis, Center for Veterinary Medicine (HFV-222), FDA, 7500 Standish Place,
Rockville, MD 20855.
